Time To Get Your Mail In Shroud of the Avatar

Miss someone screaming at you “YOU GOT MAIL!”? Maybe this will help!

With Shroud of the Avatar being a Sandbox based Online game, there will often be things we may want to build for ourselves. For me, one of those was a mail system, and I thought I would pass on the idea.

I set several of these up at various housing and vendor shops that I have.

The idea is you use a Public container to put blank sheets of paper into and label it something like “stationary.” I am only putting about a half dozen sheets in at a time so that if someone decides to “borrow” paper, I didn’t lose a lot of gold. I am keeping refill paper nearby to quickly and easily reload the paper holder.

At that point, you also need another container for people to put the notes into, and only you can remove them. I used Small Bags for this, dubbing them “mail bags.” Sat the permissions so the public can add and walla! Safe-mail delivery.

For purposes of making it clear to other people what is going on, a little decoration can go a long way. A note explaining how the system works. Inkwells, desks, and other related items to act as signifiers. At my vendor shops, I have left notes indicating I am willing to take offers, trades, etc.

Does it work? Within 48 hours of implementing this system, I have gotten mail at two vendor shops, one of which is turning into a decent sized trade. I also appreciate being able to just leave notes for other people I setup with this system, rather than remembering I need to catch them and tell them something.

Finally, to expand on it, you can use it as a sort of inter-company mailbox system. Place multiple containers, such as the small bags and indicate whose is whose. This would work well for guild houses; Player owned towns or other locations that a central mailbox for multiple people (and were permissions among them won’t be an issue), is called for.

I put this one in my house that has a lot of people coming through, living there, or using the crafting stations.

Vyrin & Womby’s Bookstore Open 3rd Location In Shroud of the Avatar

I enjoyed an excellent night of hunting with Womby tonight. He took me down into Serpent Spine for a little while so that I could hack away at the earth. A place a love but am not able to survive on my own yet.

Taking his Guild Leader out for a good time is not Womby and Vyrin’s only activity in the game, though. The most recognized players in the community when it comes to all things related to books, they have opened their third store!

Womby & Vyrin are pleased to announce the opening of our third bookstore!

Please join us for an open house marking the occasion:

Sunday, November 20, 1-3 PM NBT in Estgard

I apologize for not getting the opening announcement out to you sooner, but be sure to go check the place out! Tell them Stile sent you!

Shroud of the Avatar Homes of New Britannia – Decorating Contest

Contest Homes

Currently in Shroud of the Avatar, one of the more enthusiastic and active parts of the community are those decorating their homes. There is a multitude of reasons for this, but let’s look at it from a logical and straightforward standpoint.

The game is in pre-release stages right now and has not officially launched. Personally, I could play for a year or more the way it is now and not get bored! I think it’s about choosing your attitude and looking at what is present instead of focusing on what is still in development, not going to be done, or isn’t coming for a long time yet.

However one of the most flushed out aspects of the game IS the housing element. Therefore it is straightforward that the players most interested in that would also currently be the ones most interested in the housing. As other areas are fully launched the player interest for those areas will also increase. I LOVE being in a game to be a part of that emerging development.

So knowing all that it’s time to decorate! What better way to do that then to have contests?

From Berek over on the forums:

Get those creative house decorating ideas ready, Avatars! Show the community the curb appeal you can bring to a town as folk walk down the street, and the wonder in the eyes of those who step in to visit your cozy abode. Throw it all up on the walls for this contest and see what sticks!

As the contest progresses, each week on either Monday or Tuesday, we will announce on social media the latest submissions in a Facebook screenshot gallery. Peruse the screenshots there, or go to the forum submission thread to find coordinates to the homes so you can tour them in-game!

Interested in learning more? Head on over and when you post your images be sure to include a dedication to The Caverns for me!

Shroud of the Avatar – R16,

So you ready for Release 16? I KNOW I’M NOT! *chuckles* speaking of which, so that everyone doesn’t think I fell off the face of the earth, I am going to be away for a week or two, starting next week. Sorry for the absence and I will be checking in on things as far as correspondence but probably very little beyond that. I’ll be back.

Seriously though, I’m very ready for release 16. Unfortunately I think release 17 is going to be my personal big release as far as getting in game more often. I will definitely be in R16 a bit this weekend to spend some time with my friends and do some hat quests!

That’s why I am going to need the Release 16 instructions and so will you! Luckily Starr took care of it as always and hes got that.

Greyhaven did this. This happened!

Greetings All

With thanks to Doctor Shroud for the source material, and Jarrod Kailef for his blessing to use his excellent tunes “Trekking in the Tall Grass” and “Beautiful Meadow”, here is my tongue-in-cheek video assessment of the winning druid home:

A whole lotta more stuff!

I think from what we are seeing so far it is clear that Shroud of the Avatar will have some strong ties to the single player game Underworld Ascendant which comes from Ultima Underworld, a game near and dear to my heart (and in my collection!). As such I put a page for it under the links section of my site and I plan on kickstarting it (just waiting to see if we have a cross promotion right now).

Well, im not the only one! The community is already getting a wiki going and its being done by a lot of names you should recognize. Go read it for yourself!

UnderWiki: The Underworld Ascendant Wiki – The Ultima Codex.

Looking for a lot in game? Not sure where to find one? Saw an empty one don/t need it but will share it? There was a thread for that for R13 and tradition is being carried over into R14. So go find it here and tell them the Caverns helped you find them!

R14 available lots!!! | Shroud of the Avatar Forum.

Do you like to decorate houses? Testing the decoration system for R14? just want to win free stuff? Then enter the decoration contest!

As a side note I’m really excited to see how many of my guild members are in this event. GO TEAM!

Bear Tavern has another PvP event taking place called Guild vs. Guild. Taking place on 2/22/15 go read about it all here!

What time is it? Its property time out!

Posted over in the forums by Darkstarr if you hadn’t already caught it, is a new system where an activity timer will cause you to loose your house between wipes if your not active enough. This seems to be due to the high demand/low supply and to keep the more active players in housing vs that of the least active.

Starting this Wednesday December 10, at 10 AM CST (16:00 GMT) we will begin the Player Property Inactivity Timer and it will be set to 7 days. That means if The Owner of a lot has not logged in or no one with permission has moved decorations on the property in more than 7 days then all the items will go into the owner’s bank (type /bank in chat to recover them) and the owner will lose their claim on the lot (including the gold spent on it). To reset the timer the owner needs to login or a decorative object needs to be moved on the property (any player who has permission to move objects qualifies; does not require the owner to move the object). We are putting this in to make sure that claimed property is being actively used during our testing.

Check out these videos!

They Who Dwell in Darkness is a project put out by some of the members of The New Britannia Theater Troupe. First they wrote a play. Then it was recorded as an audio recording only, with voice acting and music. That in turned is played live on Avatars radio while those same people play their characters in Shroud of the Avatar and put on the play, typing the lines and using emotes in conjunction with the live radio broadcast.

If that sounds complicated, you should see what all takes place behind the scenes to do this and it’s amazing as I’ve watched them work on this how quickly they’ve gotten some serious work accomplished! When they started working on this projects I had no doubts they could put it together. I had some doubts that they could do it within the deadlines they gave themselves! Standing ovation guys!

A huge thank you to the Mad Hermit for his video efforts to capture this project! He put a LOT of time into this, as much if not more then anyone else. Truly awesome of him to do that! Lots of love from the Caverns Mad!
