Analyzing the Lyrics of “What We Do” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Analyzing the Lyrics of “What We Do” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

You can’t sing a song all about life and not include things about yourself. Neon Milk as an album uses the life lessons that the band members have learned and presented them to you to also hopefully take something from.

The group tells these stories but sometimes in generalities and sometimes using their passions to explain things that can translate into your likes and dislikes.

This track like most others also carries a lot of life lesson in it but is also has a lot of focus on the band and what their music is.

Let’s break it down!

(Verse 1)
When I’m on a beat I feel complete got lines to burn through
Waited all my life for this I guess that patience is a virtue

Doing what you love and enjoy, is more rewarding than just about anything else.

And people sleep on me like it’s past the mothafuckin’ curfew

Sort of meaning, why did people hold me back from being myself.

But I’m so sick and so fly I might as well have the bird flu
But word dude yo Earth I would never desert you
Had to take a little break to give birth to
More nouns and verbs a thousand words to earn proof
I deserve you take a breather I’ll be sure to
But for now I got the urge to rap my ass off And never stop ‘til I turn blue

Meaning that sometimes you just have to step away from it all. You give up for a while and regather your passion, your strength, your thoughts, and emotions. Ultimately you know that you also have not to give up or turn your back on everything else.

(Chorus)
Do you believe in what we are Now that the stars look just like us Do you have love for who we are
Now that we’re up high and you’re watching
What we do
What we do

So your hearing what we have to say and our message. You supported us, and here it is. This is who we are and what we are trying to do, do you still like it and us?

(Verse 2)
This is what we do
Knock ya ass all the way to Timbukto

Now talking about them or himself a bit and going to do it with rap. With music and art, to make it enjoyable for you.

I’m stuck in a rut and lookin’ up

Realizing that I don’t have all the answers but that I also see that something needs to change.

But there ain’t nobody to look up to

No one can give me all those answers, though. While there’s lots of aid from the world ultimately one can only figure out what ones own self-needs.

I sucked at school in class acted like such a fool
I didn’t know what the motherfuck to do

Not doing well in school, growing up, in society, and the peers around you. Not fitting in or understanding and instead of getting help, or digging deeper, just turning it all into a joke.

So I dropped out and started stackin’ songs to the fuckin’ moon
Chichichika hey
Better make a quick escape time tick tickin’ away
Recap takin’ over better pick a date
To be outta town by ‘cause we flippin’
The game of life around and playin’ it a different way
Ain’t nobody else who gotta sicker brain
Sticks and stones bitch they just ricochet
Give up music yeah that’ll be the friggin day wish away

So now making a change to life. Instead of listening to others, listening to ourselves and doing what we want to do, our answers, our path.

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Do You Ever” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Do You Ever” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Do You Ever does not have a big reveal from me. From what I have been able to discern on my own on this one, we have the honor nod to a typical love/girl song on an album. Going through the stages of finding and loosing love, only to be hopeful to find it again.

Part of life that is needed by most, and so definitely should have a place on any album that talks about life. Something I think we can all relate too, though, without me getting all wordsy about it.

So for this one I give you the lyrics and my intro summary, only.

(Chorus)
Do you ever think about me
‘Cause I do think of you
Do you ever dream about me
‘Cause I do dream of you

(Verse 1)
I can still remember the moment I first saw ya
I ain’t one to gawk but think I felt my jaw drop
Hotter than august eyes like emeralds
If love is a battlefield then you must be the general
But what am I thinking you don’t know the things I been through
Plus I got a chica I’m already pretty into
But damn baby girl you got me caught up in ya undertow
I can’t even move but still I really gotta wonder though

(Chorus)
(Verse 2)
‘Cause ya smoke more trees than a wildfire
Talkin’ ‘bout the universe and I ain’t even kinda tired
So much energy you got me feelin’ out of practice
The complete package you are what the fuck a catch is
But the sad fact is girl you the one that got away
Never found the time but trust me I did have a lot to say
But now it’s gotten way too late and I feel my brain
Do the loop like a fuckin’ hula hoop
Ever since you flew the coop and you moved
Things just ain’t been right homie
Oh that other girl she left I was happy to say bye only
That’s the bitch of it ‘cause now I’m all alone and I’m lonely
All these years later and you still the one on my mind homie
I never had a chick come along and rattle this
Cage that I’m in and you showed me the way out of it
But when you left my life sunk like battleships
Time to pick myself back up and I guess you were the catalyst

(Chorus) (Bridge 2x)
Oooh well life’s a surprise
No matter what we do
And in the darkness of night
I pray that the dawn brings you

(Chorus)

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Sirius B” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Sirius B” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

First, my apologies for delays on the continuation of this project! I feel a bit behind on things for a while and am jubilant to be continuing where I left off.

These pieces may not seem like a like of content, but regardless of that they can take three to four hours each and so while I hate it, sometimes they must be sat aside until I have a completely free evening 🙂

Excuses out of the way lets talk about Sirius B.

So let’s Recap them Lyrics and discuss!

campervan-800px

Buckle up your seatbelts we about to leave on a road trip

The first line is just an intro primarily, but I think in a way it is also saying “Listen to us please, and pay close attention because what we are going to say is important.” Let’s see what they have to say!

I feel this song is very much using the metaphor of taking a ship into space, and going into space, as a journey through your mind, the state of mind, and going to a place where you are happy. A sort of a break from the everyday things that drag you down and make life “hard” or take away your happiness. So it’s time to take a journey back to a place where you are happy.

nasa-explosion-rocket-800px

Except there’s no road our ship takes off like a bomb exploded

No road here has the distinct meaning of they are talking about traveling through space. The deeper meaning is that they are traveling a path that is in the mind.

venus

Stopped for gas at the Saturn but it was 150 a liter
So we hop on over to Venus it’s at least a little bit cheaper
And I had just left the station when I had to get off on the shoulder
License and registration do ya know why I pulled you over
You were doin’ 305 in a 200 million

The man, always putting you down, stopping you from doing what you want to. Society also does the same with its pressures to conform to it and to think the same, rather than going outside of what has been deemed accepted.

This can happen when you are going to unusual places even within your mind.

Also, that as you explore yourself, you will have those thoughts, beliefs, and pressure in your mind slowing you down but you just have to get past it.

You have to question everything so that you can come to your own understandings.

beer3-800px

You’re lucky I like ya music son I saw you chuggin’ that Killians

Killian’s is a damned fine beer! Before microbreweries became common in my area and you drank nothing but the standard grocery store shelved beers, this was my beer of choice.

police-800px

But he let me go I get back fine I step off the ship

Breaking away from those thoughts that are holding you back in your mind.

I’m finally home I take a deep breath as my skin wets from the mist
And try to think of Earth but it’s almost like I forget it exists
The only thing I know is that they makin’ a mess of that bitch

I think this is all about perspectives. Thinking in larger viewpoints and seeing things from the outside. Looking at how we treat our planet and the life on it, rather than being a part of it.

tiere-coloured-800px

Takin’ a walk through the forest all the flowers lean toward us
You can tell they adore us and when the animals saw us
They lined up everyone from small as a flea to as big as a tyrannosaurus
And they started singing for us can’t remember it all
But I think the chorus was like

A union and sharing with everything. Plan, animal, and insect alike. The importance of life, all life in the world. Something that as you search yourself, understand yourself, and become happy that often weighs heavily on the mind in my experience.

sperm-800px

(Chorus) Hello there
Welcome to the place you’re from

What is important is how this line is said. It says “The place you’re from,” it does not say “Home.” I feel that this is very much a reference to home, being a state of mind and not a physical place.

That at this part in the song you have reached within your inner mind that place of peace.

You’ve been away for far too long So sit back it’s all fine now
And just know that there’s a place for
You with us tonight

I feel that this is all talking about a place of comfort for you or within yourself.

ufo-800px

(Verse 2)
Kick back with a six pack I’m good
The leaders back in the hood
Watch ships zigzag through the sky
Pop a couple Tictacs

He’s doing what makes him happy. It speaks about being happy and finding a place of happiness in yourself. Not doing physical things.

path-to-nirvana-800px

I know you’d Wanna be here
fact is ya could
Wanna make sure that’s understood
But ya gotta find your own way here
There ain’t no GPS trackin’ the route
You’d love it wanna take a tour

Something anyone that ever finds their own place of peace within themselves will understand, is that no one else could have put them there.

There are things you learn and that can be taught that give you tools to help you find that place, but ultimately only you can travel in your own mind.

teleporter-800px

That’s more of a metaphor here we can teleport
Go anywhere when we hella bored
Saw a car what’s that, what the hell’s it for
We can blink and be there we alien

You can travel anywhere in your own mind, once you learn the routes to take.

weed-openclipart-800px

We don’t smoke weed we smoke uranium
You know you’re high when ya cranium Explodes with the sound of a crowded stadium
20 hour nights makin’ moonshine outta moonlight
We don’t need to eat but we keep food around so we can have food fights
You should hear the music homie we never do whats been done twice
Uh, better get some ice partys go ‘til third sunrise
Fuck with us that’d be unwise we could take you out in a burst of heat
But that’ll never happen ‘cause we believe in universal peace
So come party with us where the shots vanish mysteriously
And seriously that’s how we do on Sirius B

This is all much as we have seen throughout the song. We went up this huge hill if you will, and now we are on a straight piece of flatland racing along.

Metaphors for being happy and explorings one’s self. This can be done with other people is both a metaphor and at the same time it is not.

It mean’s share the journey with them. Explore yourself. Question everything, and then you will have a connection with each other.

Also enjoy the journey, not just the destination. Teleporting from earlier’s, cars, ships, and the continual fast movement of party, drinking, songs. Is all about enjoying the journey, not just the destination.

thumbdala-800px

(Chorus)
That’s what’s up That’s what’s up That’s what’s up That’s what’s up
Thatthatthatthat’s what’s up

Awwww man, and with that, it is time for me to wrap up this journey, which I took with Recap. I hope that those who didn’t fully understand the journey may now enjoy it more. Thank you for tagging along with me on this trip.

Remember, this series is being done with permission and is only my thoughts and impressions of their music. I may get some things wrong, I may put meaning where they did not intend it, and I am fully sure I’m not getting it all (Sometimes I have revelations by an even deeper meaning in a line, and then forget it again.. simply because their music has so much depth!).

P.S.
Dear Recap Band,

You know I love you. I know your busy. Im busy to, very often and that is why I am lame and am still doing these peices, which I meant to have done when your new album launched. But… I very much would like a video for this song! *cracks wip*

P.P.S.

You know that was a joke, very much in the reference of Richard Garriott getting fan mail and how the format it almost always was, which I figured you would get, being.. right. Although that video ONE OF THESE DAYS, would be epic :).

Time For a Little Music Vidoe With Recap – “Wrong War”

My favorite band, The Recap Band, and friends the Space Bards, recently put out a new album “Pronoia.” Frankly, it’s bad ass.

This was recently followed by the posting of a video for “Wrong War”! If you missed it here, you go! Also for those waiting on the next Lyric analytical from Neon Milk, bear with me. I will still be doing the rest of the album, but I am playing catch up from the last couple of weeks. It’ll be there in its own time, but it shall come, and it shall be good!

Be sure to follow the link to YouTube, give it a thumbs up, and drop a comment that Stile sent you!

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Be Who You Wanna Be” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Remember, this is only my opinions and even if stated in a factual way is not meant more then as my opinion.

I would love to say this is one of my favorite songs on The Neon Milk album by Recap. Unfortunately, I learned I cannot say that about any song on the album because I love them all so much I can’t pick!

This song touches me personally as it is very much about not only the advice I have been trying to listen to for the past four years, but it’s something I started doing, am still working on, and is making me happier in life than I have ever been. Its a process to get to where you want to be, and if all goes in a year or so I will be fully there and living my life dreams. A large part of that is…

BEING WHO I WANNA BE!

White lights
Break free
God like
That’s what I wanna be

Breaking free is talking about from society’s normal way of thinking, or the way you have been taught to think. It is also talking about where you are at now and getting out of that to be where you want to be instead.

Mask hood Red Eyes

(Verse 1)
See this world it makes my insides bend
Cracks splinter behind the mask I’m in
Maybe time draws near and they should know
This body that I wear is not my (not my home)

Insides bending is talking about the mental and emotional pain that we suffer from living in this world. Made harder when one is trying to be something or someone they are not.

The mask you are wearing causes your pain. The splinters and cracks in this mask poking into your face and head are talking about that by being someone you are not you just hurt yourself.

Time draws near and they should know is saying that it is time to be myself, it is time to change. They need to know means I need to tell other people so they can also be happy.

Home is a big metaphor in this entire album, and it means a place where you are happy, safe, and warm. By being someone, you are not, then you are not any of those things.

Green Star

(Chorus 1)
Starin’ at the stars like I’m studyin’ astronomy
Bidin’ my time ‘til they see fit to honor me
Anything but average when I’m on a beat
An anomaly that’s what I wanna be
Wanna be

Always looking elsewhere but where I should be is what the stars and astronomy line are referring to. An anomaly because being oneself is just that. Everyone in the world is very different and unique, and we all try to put everyone into this cookie cutter mold. Dare to be different.

Grim-Reaper-Silhouette-2400px angel

(Verse 2)
Hell with Earth I’ll live among the clouds
These human traits inside have freaked me out
If I were God I’d send the angels down
Scratch this surface clean of human (human doubt)

Earth is a metaphor for the way things are mostly, right now for many. The need to follow a particular path for success whereas success is defined as one way. Instead of participating in this I will observe it and figure it out. What’s wrong with it, what’s right.

Many of the things people want to do are like “wow” really? Why would I do that? Why does this make sense? These are the traits freaking me out.

God and sending the Angels down to remove doubt. Doubt is the enemy, the mind killer. It is keeping people from doing and being who they want to be.

Demon book

(Chorus 2)
May sound strange but this our philosophy
Livin’ life by one code one policy
Everything’s a choice that ya gotta make conciously
And in all honesty that’s how I wanna be
(That’s how I wanna be)

So you have to decide whats right for you and live that way as a choice. It’s not an easy thing to do but that’s how I want to live. It won’t happen to a person by accident they have to choose to live this way even though it may not be the way you have been told to live.

Wooden_Bridge.svg.hi

(Bridge) White lights Break free God like White lights Break free God like
That’s what I wanna be

The bridge in this song is fantastic, as it’s very much more about doing it than talking about it. The happiness, euphoria of doing what you want, doing it well and thus making you feel it.

(Chorus 3)
I’m sick of this planet I’ma form my own colony Ragin’ on the stage and there ain’t no calmin’ me Never gonna stop ‘til the states start bombin’ me A two man monarchy
That’s who we wanna be
(That’s who we wanna be)
Fuck ‘em all and be who you wanna be

At this point, I think you have this last chorus on your own if you didn’t already 🙂
