Analyzing the Lyrics of “What We Do” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Analyzing the Lyrics of “What We Do” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

You can’t sing a song all about life and not include things about yourself. Neon Milk as an album uses the life lessons that the band members have learned and presented them to you to also hopefully take something from.

The group tells these stories but sometimes in generalities and sometimes using their passions to explain things that can translate into your likes and dislikes.

This track like most others also carries a lot of life lesson in it but is also has a lot of focus on the band and what their music is.

Let’s break it down!

(Verse 1)
When I’m on a beat I feel complete got lines to burn through
Waited all my life for this I guess that patience is a virtue

Doing what you love and enjoy, is more rewarding than just about anything else.

And people sleep on me like it’s past the mothafuckin’ curfew

Sort of meaning, why did people hold me back from being myself.

But I’m so sick and so fly I might as well have the bird flu
But word dude yo Earth I would never desert you
Had to take a little break to give birth to
More nouns and verbs a thousand words to earn proof
I deserve you take a breather I’ll be sure to
But for now I got the urge to rap my ass off And never stop ‘til I turn blue

Meaning that sometimes you just have to step away from it all. You give up for a while and regather your passion, your strength, your thoughts, and emotions. Ultimately you know that you also have not to give up or turn your back on everything else.

(Chorus)
Do you believe in what we are Now that the stars look just like us Do you have love for who we are
Now that we’re up high and you’re watching
What we do
What we do

So your hearing what we have to say and our message. You supported us, and here it is. This is who we are and what we are trying to do, do you still like it and us?

(Verse 2)
This is what we do
Knock ya ass all the way to Timbukto

Now talking about them or himself a bit and going to do it with rap. With music and art, to make it enjoyable for you.

I’m stuck in a rut and lookin’ up

Realizing that I don’t have all the answers but that I also see that something needs to change.

But there ain’t nobody to look up to

No one can give me all those answers, though. While there’s lots of aid from the world ultimately one can only figure out what ones own self-needs.

I sucked at school in class acted like such a fool
I didn’t know what the motherfuck to do

Not doing well in school, growing up, in society, and the peers around you. Not fitting in or understanding and instead of getting help, or digging deeper, just turning it all into a joke.

So I dropped out and started stackin’ songs to the fuckin’ moon
Chichichika hey
Better make a quick escape time tick tickin’ away
Recap takin’ over better pick a date
To be outta town by ‘cause we flippin’
The game of life around and playin’ it a different way
Ain’t nobody else who gotta sicker brain
Sticks and stones bitch they just ricochet
Give up music yeah that’ll be the friggin day wish away

So now making a change to life. Instead of listening to others, listening to ourselves and doing what we want to do, our answers, our path.

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Do You Ever” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Do You Ever” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

Do You Ever does not have a big reveal from me. From what I have been able to discern on my own on this one, we have the honor nod to a typical love/girl song on an album. Going through the stages of finding and loosing love, only to be hopeful to find it again.

Part of life that is needed by most, and so definitely should have a place on any album that talks about life. Something I think we can all relate too, though, without me getting all wordsy about it.

So for this one I give you the lyrics and my intro summary, only.

(Chorus)
Do you ever think about me
‘Cause I do think of you
Do you ever dream about me
‘Cause I do dream of you

(Verse 1)
I can still remember the moment I first saw ya
I ain’t one to gawk but think I felt my jaw drop
Hotter than august eyes like emeralds
If love is a battlefield then you must be the general
But what am I thinking you don’t know the things I been through
Plus I got a chica I’m already pretty into
But damn baby girl you got me caught up in ya undertow
I can’t even move but still I really gotta wonder though

(Chorus)
(Verse 2)
‘Cause ya smoke more trees than a wildfire
Talkin’ ‘bout the universe and I ain’t even kinda tired
So much energy you got me feelin’ out of practice
The complete package you are what the fuck a catch is
But the sad fact is girl you the one that got away
Never found the time but trust me I did have a lot to say
But now it’s gotten way too late and I feel my brain
Do the loop like a fuckin’ hula hoop
Ever since you flew the coop and you moved
Things just ain’t been right homie
Oh that other girl she left I was happy to say bye only
That’s the bitch of it ‘cause now I’m all alone and I’m lonely
All these years later and you still the one on my mind homie
I never had a chick come along and rattle this
Cage that I’m in and you showed me the way out of it
But when you left my life sunk like battleships
Time to pick myself back up and I guess you were the catalyst

(Chorus) (Bridge 2x)
Oooh well life’s a surprise
No matter what we do
And in the darkness of night
I pray that the dawn brings you

(Chorus)

Analyzing the Lyrics of “Starship” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”

I was jubilant with how this entire pieces came out the other night for Secrets. Although in general even though I am doing Starship now, I am looking more forward to some of the songs further into the album. While everything on this album has a lot of meaning to me, some songs delve deeper and have multiple things going on making it a lot more to share with you. I thought about skipping around a bit, but no.. I will do this in order. Again, these are my opinions, not fact.

So in as much as in we left off with Secrets last time, I also believe that the song did the same thing. The song ended with our farmer going ballistic and raising a fuss, but the alien shrugged it off and moved on. That’s what the song represented, and we are now going to look at “Phone Home (Starship)” where in my opinion the band members are also telling you about themselves and who they are, again using the same metaphor I explained.

So that last song was to say to you… I am different then what is the norm of society, and here are stereotypes to show you what I mean. I am breaking away from that, trying to become myself, and now I am going to tell you a bit more about who I am.

So here we go, Analyzing the Lyrics of “Starship” by The Recap Band, From the Album “Neon Milk”!

dragon-yin-yang-large-hi

(Verse 1)
I’m here from another dimension
May I please just have your attention

I am different than you and as a result, I have spent my life having to live differently than you. I want to tell you about it.

I been sensin’ a lot of tension on your planet
You got a long ways to ascension
But me I’m a higher intelligence
Observing the universes elegance
Out in space smokin’ on a fat bowl

Things are changing in recent years. Minorities are being looked at different, equality and what that means is expanding. The geek culture is starting to be more accepted, women in gaming, all sorts of things that are ways of life and hobbies to many over the years, are now starting to come out. This is what that tension speaks about. Whatever it is about you that isolated you from the majority of people around you and how that affects life for us all as a species.

You also have all the changes being made in the world, the progress. America has it’s first black president, gay rights are approved, states legalize marijuana, and so on. Things like Change.org, Kickstarter, and Patreon are causing changes faster than ever before, but there’s still so much more to happen.

We still have a long way to go, though. People still judge without trying to understand. People are still sometimes outcasts for their beliefs or ways of life. It’s getting better, but long ways to go.

I’ve been one of these people because of my choices or interests. As such I have a viewpoint or perspective from outside of it. Not only have I live in this perspective, but I have been studying it. From different sides, opinions trying to learn the best way, the right way. I want to share it, see what you think so that maybe we can find a better way together.

Fuck the world I’ma stick it to a black hole
Huh, people talkin’ that ching chang
But you know I gotta keep the balance like a ying yang
When I’m on the mic I might cause another big bang
That’s just how I do when I’m goin’ in mang

You can’t do things because that’s the way society says it should be, or that everyone you know tells you that’s how it should be. Fuck that; I am going to do it my way, the way that will make me happy.

All these things that other people are saying, that’s not right for me. Instead, I have to find my balance, a way to be who I am and still live in your world and try to be accepted by it.

I’m going to speak up about it; I am going to tell you who I am and why. I am not going to hide it anymore; some people may disagree, but more people are listening and open to the changes that are happening, and I want to be a part of that and help to make it happen.

If you ever turn on your TV
And see me land my ship in DC
Oh don’t worry you got nothin’ to fear, kids
I’m only here to help build more pyramids

I want to be seen and heard because I want to help. I have some insights, and the world can be a better place. It is getting better, changes are happening but only if we come together as an entire world and build big things, can we truly accomplish. It;s, not something to be scared of because it’s just a way of life that makes you happier. It doesn’t cost anything; it’s just about understanding.

UFO.svg.hi

(PreChorus)
Where was my starship all these days
Why am I down here anyway
Starship me away

The Starship is the path. The right way to live and to be happy. Why have I spent my time hiding and being afraid, and trying to fit in rather than just embracing who I am? Time to take the correct path.

You can’t get there on your own, though, hence the Starship metaphor. It helps you get there. In this case, that help could be anything, understanding, other people, etc…

Green Peace Alien

(Verse 2)
Now I’m not sayin’ it was aliens but

It was aliens definitely was
Gave me the skills to keep the house shakin’ Musta been them it wasn’t God or Satan

It was other people like myself and their belief in me that is helping me to figure out how to live. The right way to do this, and the energy to keep going. The progress and changes that are already taking place, people that are causing change. It wasn’t any religious belief or cult that helped me; it was just ordinary citizens being themselves and accepting me for who I am.

I’m still just patiently waitin’
For the day when I don’t have to wear a fake grin
Ain’t perfect but I hide my flaws well
I just cover ‘em up like Roswell

I want to be myself all the time. I am figuring out how I want to live and how to be who I am. The worlds being more accepting of individualism and judging less. It’s not there though but I know how to hide them when I need to. Really well so that people don’t know I am different.

If starships are meant to fly
Then maybe my hard ships are meant to go byebye
Most of us just hope and sigh
You lookin’ for a better life homie so am I

If there is a way to do this, get where I am going and to be happy I can put the past behind. Why do we have to be unhappy? Most people don’t try they just give in and mold with society, learn to accept it and be as happy as they can. Trudging along in their life but hoping for something better. We’re the same, we just want to live in this world and make the best of it. Let me be happy the way I need to, I am not hurting you.

That’s why I’m up on this stage rappin’
Y’all never know what could possibly happen
Snare is clappin’ bass is boomin’ Almost makes me wish I was human

I’m just trying to say to everyone. I don’t want to hurt you; I just want to be me. If I talk about it, maybe It will help. Maybe it could cause real change to happen in the world. Hell, I am having fun just conveying the word, I almost wish I could just make music and not have to worry about all the other stuff in life. That what I want, to do what I enjoy and not worry about how others see me or how I fit in.

(Chorus 2x)
Where was my starship all these days Phphphone home I got to phone home Why am I down here anyway
Starship me away

I feel this is sufficiently explained at this point 🙂

(Verse 3)

The ships are aware. They are conscious beings of a sort, and are directly connected to the consciousness of the socalled occupants or
pilots of the craft.

I’m in this world
But I’m not of this world
(I’m in this world)

I may be a part of this planet, living on it, working on it. At the same time, I am not, though, as I have not been made welcome.

Pick up the radio to phone home
Nothin’ but static and no dial tone
Gotta get used to bein’ alone
It’s a big world that I’ma go roam

Home is a metaphor for a place that you are, in which you are happy, warm and fuzzy. Welcome, and there are those around you who don’t judge you. Finding that place is hard, though. So just have to settle for what I have and maybe look around a lot to try to find it.

Pick up the radio to phone home Naw fuck that I’m in my own zone
When I leave I’m gonna tear a hole in the sky
That’s bigger than the ones in the mothafuckin’ ozone

No, that’s the wrong way to do it. I need to MAKE my home. I need to create it with everything I have. Give it every part of myself and encourage others to do the same. I need to make sure I can’t be ignored.

CDB Village 2

(Chorus)
Phphphone home I got to phone home
Starship me away
Phphphone home I got to phone home
Starship me away
Phphphone home I got to phone home
Starship me away
Phphphone home I got to phone home
Phphphone home I got to phone home

I have to keep trying, I have to get through the static and do whatever it takes to find my home and where it is.

That wraps up this song. As you will find from my continuation of this segment on The Caverns, the songs in the album not only have individual meaning but an overall path that they follow to grow upon each other.

See you next time, and I will bring the Vanilla Vodka!
