Helen Garriott Auction Spotlight + SotA Bonus Golden Moon Dial Auction Spotlight

This was an exciting auction to come across my radar, as while I have heard a lot of the Garriott stories I had never heard of this one!

Story or not the photo is fantastic. You can see the pure wonderment on Helen’s face, and Owen in the background has a huge grin!

$10.00 Starting bid with reasonable shipping, this is a cool addition to someone’s collection!

Since I hate doing auction spotlights for just 1 item, I figured I will use some of my own blog space for a couple of auctions I am running for Shroud of the Avatar items, one in particular.

If you didn’t Seed invest but are a collector, then you may have your eyes on many of the Seed invest items. Currently, I have an auction that just started, running just a tad over two weeks, for a Golden Lord British Moondial, taking place on Caveloot.com.

Auctions – Caveloot.com

The Moondial to rich for your blood? Do you have some house decorating you need to do or having trouble keeping your vendor stocked and need goods to sell for profit?

I also have an auction running for a “Massive House Decorating kit” that comes with hundreds of items that should allow you to at least get a fairly decent start on the job, including storage! Current bid is $55.00 and that is CHEAP for this kit!

Auctions – Caveloot.com

Have item’s you want to auction? We only charge a 10% commission and do all the work, while you tell us how to run it! Contact stile@thecaverns.net for more information. Also, have a nice layout with the details on the Shroud of the Avatar forums here: Online Auction Services at Caveloot.com – Perfect for Selling Golden Items! | Shroud of the Avatar Forum

Caveloot.com Starts Shroud of the Avatar Online Auctions

Ok, you are a Shroud of the Avatar player and you are tired of looking at arbitrary price lists of items from sellers. You want to see what people are actually paying for items, what they are selling for, and have opportunities to get at lower costs. In short, you want an online auction!

Auctions – Caveloot.com

I decided to start running an auction service at my store site Caveloot.com. To see how things go, I currently just have a couple of small artifacts and one large item priced low to start things out! Looking for a Duke Founder City Water House Deed? This might be your chance, as I have a two-week auction running with a starting bid of $50!

Auctions – Caveloot.com

Maybe it’s the reverse of that. You are a seller, and you just want to see what your items will go for at that time, selling as quickly as you can and not messing with everything. We’d be more than happy to run auctions for your items, at your specified minimums (returning what doesn’t sell), for a 10% commission. Interested? Contact customerservice@thecaverns.net!

Have a LOT of stuff to sell, want to do it quickly, don’t know where to start, concerned about risk, and don’t want to undersell? Let us take your complete inventory for you, run it as auctions, market it, take care of all the transactions, and just hand you your payments minus our Paypal Fees and 10% commission!

Caverns, Dungeons, and Beyond 6/2017 Giveaway Results

If you have missed it in the past, I try to do a giveaway about once a month to the magnificent folks that help me create by either making single donations or who are a Patron.

Anyone that donates a $1.00 or more or that is a Patron is entered into the next drawing. After that drawing, you would need to donate again or remain a Patron to qualify for the following one. This is not anything I have set up as a reward perk, but rather something I am doing to show my appreciation.

This month I did the drawing much later in the month than normal, and so decided to do two!

Given away to our winners, Indi Martin and The Hearth of Britannia were a “Scales” and a “Fireball or Tears” customized D6 die. Prizes were donated by Caveloot.com and can be purchased from the store.

This is the first time I am letting this tidbit out, but I do plan on something extra special as a yearly giveaway in December this year πŸ™‚

Until next post, peace my readers!

Geeks Can Craft In the Real World, Not Just In Video Games!

As an entrepreneur, you have to wear a lot of hats. As one with no emoployees, starting out, and an extremely tight budget you have to wear a lot of hats, you would rather just throw money at. Crafting is one of those I prefer to pay someone else to do but can step up when necessary.

Unfortunately, I had a necessary with my sword stands. From the first convention, I did the particle wood started stripping on the screws, splitting the wood, and causing the displays to come apart.

Do not get me wrong. I stand behind these sword stands and in fact will be selling them in my store at some point in time. They function as they are made to. Right up until you try to haul them around, in and out of places, knocking them around, and so forth.

I have been getting by with them selling at conventions simply by putting them together and letting their structural framework support themselves. This was NOT going to work for much longer. With my financial limits and deadlines, I needed a fast solution.

I decided to rebuild these so that they could come apart and go back together, making transport easier. Additionally, so that they were less prone to the issues, I was having. Pinning them with Dowel rods being my immediate answer.

I would note, I was able to accomplish this entire project for under $12.00. This was because I had most of the materials I needed laying around in either my garage workshop or in my hobby workshop.

The first stage of the project was together supplies but more importantly, remove the TORTURE devices!

Next time I run a D&D campaign? Screw monsters. I am just going to give my party six boards with two razor sharp screws sticking out at a 90-degree angle at each end and tell them they have to carry them around with them. They think it a laugh until they have to start doing 1d4 damage… every 6 seconds.

As I type this post, the screws from that were removed five days ago. I am looking at both my hands and arms and seeing the final scabs still from scratches and puncture marks.

Next, I worked on repairing the existing pieces as well as wood putty’ing up some of the nicks. Keep in mind I am more worried about functionality and less pain at this point then cosmetic. I put a little time into cosmetic simply because I was working on the project but overall it was my lower concern.

The wood putty looks bad in these photos but due to my time limits, to avoid multiple layers (doing it right), I tried to sculpt a fairly basic single layer with the intent of then sand’ing it down the next day. This worked for the most part, except that the putty was just taking to long to fully dry and so to speed stuff up I had to sacrifice loosing it in a few places and moving on with the sanding.

Once sanded I re-drilled the exisiting holes with my new hole size. That being appropriate to the dowel rod diameter I made my pegs out of.

Once that was all done I gave everything a few shots of black spray paint I found lurking in the form of a few partial spray cans in the basement. Sanded down the dowel rods a tiny bit using a Dremel sander to slide into each other properly.

I Decided I wanted the stands to stand out a bit more as well as help advertise. So the only place I spent some money was on some lettering which you will see in the final photos in a moment.

The result is I am now able to assemble and dissemble VERY carefully for travel. I mention no more damage being taken from the evil screws?

Here’s the downside, and it’s a big one! Those wooden pegs are going to be incredibly easy to break. The moment of potential is when assembling and dissembling. I will be careful and get as much use out of them as I can. Unfortunately, I know I will be earning some more crafting EXP on those again in the future. The GM is just waiting for me to roll a fumble and SNAP!

The solution? Once this has happened in a couple of places, I’ll get a bag of the appropriate size metal dowel pins. This will obviously also get the project done at an extremely low cost.

Finally, I wanted to come up with a travel solution.

Protecting the pegs was not hard, just a piece of tape and some bubble wrap. I’ll get some long strips of velcro one wrap when I have a little but in the funds for it, and will switch to that instead of the pieces of tape in the future. That is assuming I just do not switch to metal pegs instead and skip the velcro.

Rather than having all these pieces loose and being a lot to move around, I dug through the house a bit and found the perfect travel solution. While a bit heavy, this Army Travel bag my grandfather used in WWII will be perfect. How great is that? Not the first time and I am sure not the last time I repurpose this bag.

This concludes crafting training.

Going to SotA Con East? Let Me Help You Dress!

If you are going to the Shroud of the Avatar Convention – East Coast, then this was written for you! Certainly can be useful to anyone, though.

What I am about to unveil to you is certainly not a “complete” project, but rather one that will be ongoing as long as I continue to maintain the websites. The SotA Con Event Coordinators that contacted me about this project have given me some feedback as I have worked on it, but they may still have additional feedback, and I will certainly take that into consideration for updates. Finally, you can cause change and updates as well! Feedback is an amazing thing that way.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A FAQ!!! Please send me questions you may have, as you prepare for an event like this if you are going in stile! I will not only try to help out, but where it makes sense to do so, I will add the material to my guide or create a FAQ page to the handbook.

What I put together has a few parts to it. You can use either aspect separately, or pair the two together for a more powerful tool.

First, the guide.

A new permanent page on The Caverns! A basic (very basic) guide to LARP and Garb. A few things to keep in mind when shopping for Garb, LARP, and some tips for making and putting together your outfit cheaply.

Secondly, an easier way to shop.

I put together some “themed” outfits in my store. These are not single click packages, but instead show you all the individual pieces in the theme. I set it up this way for many reasons.

-One was convenience. Many of these items require size, color, or other options selected. I felt that not only putting that many required options into a single checkout would be time-consuming but also confusing to the buyer.

-Another is minor customization. If you are looking for only a couple of pieces, want to substitute out with another store option, whatever the reason! You have the ability to jump in, grab the items you want, and then shop the rest of the store or check out. For example, you may use a belt you already own,Β rather then buying one in the package.

-It also reduces the number of packages I need to put into the store with just subtle revisions, making it simpler for you to shop without loosing the ability to see some of those options.

-Finally, it may just help you with ideas! Maybe you don’t want a particular item but like the concept. Perhaps you see an item that you decide you can make yourself or you want, but in a slightly different version, I have elsewhere in the store.

Combine the two tools!!!

Let’s say you are going to an event, and you want to go as a Cook. You drop over to my store and grab a basic outfit theme and toss it into your cart.

You then use the search tool, which I have found to be excellent, on the word “cook”. Decide that while you like the foam cleaver that you don’t need one made to SCA standards as you do not plan on hitting anyone with it.

So you then hop over to Amazon or Hobby Lobby and pick up some foam and paints and go to work!

You can use some of the tips in my guide to making your garb in combination with some of the items I offer in my store. The themes can be a great way to pick a few basic pieces and then add in where you want!

Finally, help me improve on it by letting me help you!

You can do this simply by dropping me a note using the contact form on any of my websites. I get it, and I respond, ask anyone that has ever done so!!

Let me know what you’re working on. Give me as much detail as possible including estimated budget.

I will add a “Package themes page” to the guide. I will post your theme package as a sub-page so that in the future other people shopping for that theme can check it out.

Using the example on the cook, you drop me a note, telling me what your thinking, It can be as simple as a single word and I will come back with options, or it can be a highly detailed wish list.

I would then put together various options using both items from my store and from Amazon. Which items I use from where will be based on how much you are spending, how much do-it-yourself, and other such factors you are looking for.

Why Amazon Stile?

Full text inside SelectShow

Finally, I will also email you back personally to go over it in a little more details as to how it pertains to you, and you may want me to help you source or generate some more from that point.

If you are looking only for ready-made, quality products that my store offers, then I will work the best I can within your budget (adding additional discounts if I can!!), to put together your theme. Instead of putting it on the guide, though, I would put it in that section of the store. [pullquote]adding additional discounts if I can!![/pullquote]

So please, don’t be shy! I am offering to help out as in turn you are providing me a tool that will be of use to others and in turn my business.

If I am unable to find the time or can’t assist for any other reason, I will let you know.

You realize some people pay for a service like this, right? Use it!

– Use code “SOTACON” for 10% off all of your orders until 1the end of October!

– I May be able to do better for you, depending on a number of factors such as brand, order size, etc. If you want to send a note in through the contact form at what you are looking to order, I will return correspondence with a better discount. I have more leeway, especially as order size goes up or any number of other considerations. So please, if you are going to the Shroud of the Avatar convention, drop me a note with a list of the sku#’s on the web page you are considering. If after I send you a note on what I can offer you want to proceed, I will send you a Paypal Business Invoice for the order with the additional discounts.

[pullquote]I will return correspondence with a better discount.[/pullquote]

Ankh Quill

I, Stile Teckel, Hereby dedicate this guide to the Shroud of the Avatar Convention. AKA SotA Con. A huge thank you to those involved with the convention who approached me with the idea of creating this guide, as well as providing suggestions and feedback.

10% Discount code to support the people in the SotA and UDIC communities!

For those who just want to cut to the chase, if you go to the Caverns Store and use code

Full text inside SelectShow
to get 10% off your order(s) from our catalog of over 900 Items from three top of the line names in Larping gear! Whether you need a sword hilt ashtray and bookends or a full suit of plate, we have it. This discount will be valid until 10/31/2015.

For those who want the who, what, why, where, when, and how…

Over the last few years I have not only been welcomed by the people in both the SotA and UDIC with open arms but also encouraged to continue to achieve things I never dreamt of accomplishing. This lead me to starting this project over a year ago which I am fully unveiling now, to you, with this grand opening. Rather than just announce it and ask for your support when your shopping, I wanted to give something back to the people in those communities and so am making this discount available.

The Caverns Store is a full line of Larping Gear made by Epic Armory, Dragon Forge Leather, and Ancient Armory. The images you are seeing in this blog are just some of the few products we have available for sale.

It is very important to note what this is not. This is not a game project and this has no relation to Shroud of the Avatar, Portalarium, or any of its affiliates. This is a retail internet store which is fully and legitimately legal (I file taxes monthly!). This is a real life project for me that can have an effect on my livelihood. I treat it very seriously and have put a lot of heart and soul into it.

Any support you can show me would be greatly appreciated. Not just in terms of making The Caverns Store your primary choice for these sort of products when you are buying them, but also in telling your friends, family, and promoting it any other ways that you are able. Additionally I have a lot of hours into loading the catalog that you will at least look at (I hope.. Don’t make me beg?). As such any feedback or suggestions you have please send to me by using the contact form on the Store site to help me stand out from the competition!

Please feel secure in using this site! The store segment of the site itself is professional software which I am paying subscription fees (and hefty ones) to use. You can be confident that when you purchase from The Caverns Store that the coding structure behind everything is created by a team of professionals. Every effort to keep your information private and secure is maintained.

You will find a wide range in pricing depending on your needs and wants. In the spotlight section is a “Ready For Battle” product line which is high quality larping equipment that is made with less detail so that it can be provided at a lower price point. If you are looking for highly detailed pieces, we have those also!

As a tribute to The Hobloth II held by Rustic Dragon (and with permission from Rustic Dragon), you will also find a section under “spotlight” titled “Hobloth II”. These are some of the same brand and model of LARP weapons that Rustic Dragon purchased for use in the Hobloth II. I say some, as he also purchased other brands that I am not currently carrying or models that are discontinued.

I need to develop both a FAQ and Testimonial section to the site. What I am saying is, do not hesitate to contact me with questions and should you order, testimonials, so that I can begin building these.

Please consider subscribing to our newsletter when you visit! I do intend to add more product lines in the future and will make annoucements. Additionally I plan on expanding the types of products offered. If you have products you sell and are looking for (or willing to consider) a retailer, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can discuss!

Things such as A company Facebook, Twitter, and other marketing tools and social site connections will be made in the near future. With the Catalog fully loaded I wanted this community, my readers, friends, family, UDIC, and SotA to be the first ones to visit!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and take a peek at the site. I look forward to getting orders shipped to those who are interested in making purchases and I will leave off with a few more product photo highlights!

P.S. – Should you be interested in any of the products I spotlighted on this blog, just click on the image and that number you will see in the bottom left corner is the item number. You can pull it up at the store using the store search feature. However these do not even begin to cover the vast array of products we have!

Whether you are spelunking in Caves, Delving in Dungeons, or Travelling beyond The Caverns Store has the gear you need to make it safely!

Sneak peek on one of my projects

Now don’t get to excited about this. I started it months ago, and Im not sure how soon ill have it wrapped up. May be a while yet may not.

LOT to add to it yet. Many websites, etc.. and people also.

One thing to note is everything on it is a link. Either opening an email or taking you to a web page.

I am hoping long term, maybe, ill set it up so that its a front page when you go to the caverns.net. Would be easy to do as the site forwards currently. Many people have criticized me for having the site set up this way but honestly I did it that way, so that if I ever wanted and needed to do something like this I could.

I have a feeling though it’s going to be too large to do that with it. So well see. Right now my primary goal is a flowchart with links.

I personally can’t even remember or keep track of all the projects I am involved in or have been involved in in terms of websites and social sites. I need to make something for myself badly and thought doing it this way would make it awesome.

Feedback and constructive criticism is appreciated! Better to have some thoughts before I work on the thing then after!

Shroud of the Avatar shopping guide has moved!

Please be aware that the Shroud of the Avatar shopping guide has moved! If you are not familiar with this guide, it is a shopping guide that I keep of things I purchase due to a Shroud of the Avatar Relationship.

Where did it move to Stile? Well lad, sit down there at my feet and I will tell you! I am working on a Caverns store site and decided that was the proper place of for it! Now please keep in mind the rest of the site is under construction.. namely I still need to add the actual store part! However the shopping guide has move and has had MANY items added to it! In fact one of the reasons I moved the guide was due to its large size it needed a better home and to be separated by category.

As always I hope the shopping guide is of help!
