Even Gamers Need To Wear Socks! – Subscription Box Review – Socks and I – *Spoliers*

So next time your gaming, you want to make sure you not only have awesome socks keeping your feet warm but it’s also important that you don’t have to loose valuable gaming time going to the store for them, right?

That’s why I decided to check out a sock subscription box company and pass along a review o them for you!

Welcome to The Subscription Box review for “Socks and I,” a monthly service!

We’re a fun, passionate and sock crazy company founded on the principle that everything we do, must be done with YOU in mind.

Our mission is not only to send you AMAZING socks, but to make sure your EXPERIENCE with Socks and I, is one of a kind.

We can’t wait to ship you your package every month!

Socks and I give you the option to receive either 1 pair, two pair, or 4 pairs per month. You, of course, get to choose his or hers and the box I am reviewing for you is a mix.

There is something very cool about getting socks in the mail each month! Let’s take a look at these.

Two pairs of what I would term an “athletic” sock came in the box. Both have some vibrant colors, are well knit, stretchy, calf high, and will make any Orc want to get the drop down on you for this loot.

I personally really dig these Red, white, and black pattern which give me a Harley Quinn vibe!

Regardless of your taste preferences for coloring and styles, both of these seem quite warm and comfortable. Realizing my feet were a bit cold, I armored up against the elements with a pair and am quite cozy. The elastic around my calfs also seems to be more supportive without being restrictive than I am used to.

Definitely quality socks!

The first thing that pops into my mind when I look at this other pair? WOW, the stitching on these and detail is amazing!

The ankle high has a beautiful soft color tone with a sort of Aztec type pattern to it. Gave me some cool nostalgic thoughts of the 1982 video game by the same name! My wife not being a gamer will not appreciate that, but she will like the socks.

The other pair, just as beautiful…

HOLY SHIT THOSE ARE LONG! Was my immediate thought on unfolding them!

I can’t wait to see the look on my wife’s face when I hand her these. We both love to try new things in our wardrobe, but both have to watch our expenses, and this is going to be something she will enjoy wearing a treat.

The time of year is perfect with the negative temperatures we have sometimes been getting in our area. Not only being long but very thick with tight stitching to keep out air.

Not only because of their cool length but also their color, they remind me of my Doctor Who scarf (which yes, I DO WEAR in the winter!).

I am extremely pleased with this subscription box, hence why it’s being shared with you. The items are varied, high quality, and a decent value. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with this subscription box service!

The first thing I did when I saw the lubricant was a check to see if it is water based. It is! A water-based lubricant can be an important factor to many people due to allergy or skin sensitivity concerns. So this is not only a fun item in that is heats up, but it is also safer for many to use.

Still, though let’s back up from the lubricant a little bit and set the mood first. Start out with a few candles to set the environment for your date. Let them know the mood you’re going for right away!

Bribe them, err, I mean show them how much you care about them by offering them some tantalizing treats. If they still hedge a bit get them to play a game of dice with you1

Now that they are more in the mood and a little more pliable you can step up from the dice games and add a little innocent fun with some fur covered handcuffs and a blind. Then kick it up another notch with a personal massager which doubles as a nice gift for someone to keep for their personal use as well.

Finally as things really heat up, whatever your personal preferences are you should always practice them safely! This subscription box had the essentials to make sure that will happen when combined with a little responsibility.

I feel good about recommending this subscription service to my readers. You get a combination of both some essentials that you can always use as well as a touch of the unknown which is so important to the surprise factor to a subscription. I hope this was helpful and that if you try this out, tell them Stile sent you!

Subscription Box Review – Japan Fun Box – YUM!

To the best of my knowledge, the Japan Fun Box is the first subscription box I have ever received that was shipped to me via international shipping. That is one of the things I was most intrigued about regarding this box, was getting quality items shipped directly from the source as opposed to re-distribution through an American service.

IMG_3428

From the Japan Fun Box website:

The Japanese candy that you’ve seen on the web can arrive straight to your doorsteps. You’ve gotta try them for yourself to see how fun, crazy, and delicious they are! Won’t you try some right now?

In addition to getting a selection of yum yum’s delivered to your door each month straight from Japan, you have the option to choose how much you want! They offer a Mini box which is what this particular review is covering for $14.99 a month. Additionally, you can choose the larger size original or the really big *licks lips* family size!

IMG_3430

The packaging was very nice, and I was happy to have the contents card that explained what each item was in English. I would have been unable to identify any of these articles other than taste and some of them have an aspect to them that I would have been missing out something on. This helped make the box better.

I enjoyed this box, and it is one I can recommend. Fair pricing for the amount of fun and quality product you are getting.

I have had the Tomato Pretzels before, although I cannot tell you what subscription service I got them from. They were a happy surprise to see again as I enjoyed them the previous time.

The whistle grape candy surprised me as I had not expected them to be hollow and as they collapse when you are sucking on them they have a nice flavor burst with an interesting texture. The grape flavor is unique and reminds me of grape Bubble Yum, fantastic! Toss in the free toy that I can add to my game room as a conversatoin piece? Sweet!

Coolest award in this box would have to go to the Shuwabo! It is amazing to me how the orange and lemon flavors somehow taste like cola. Add on top of that Cola candy has become one of my absolute favorites and this was just an excellent treat.

I hope you put this box on your consideration list and let them know The Caverns sent you!

Subscription Box Review – the BAM! Box, 1980’s Theme! – Warning, Spoilers – Dedication to Joseph Toschlog

I dedicate this review to Joseph Toschlog AKA Rustic Dragon of the Hearth of Britannia! Joseph Toschlog was the winner of the Goonies 30th Anniversary Truffle Shuffle contest. Additional comments on this dedication will be mentioned elsewhere in this piece.

First, let me just say there is something cool when you are about to open a box that says “BAM!” on it. Great name choice!

What I liked most about BAM box is it felt like I came out of a collectibles store having just picked up a bunch of good buys. You know that toy store down the road or the collectible store stuck in the corner of the strip mall. The place each geek always loves to find in hopes of coming out with new treasures. It was exactly like one of those shopping trips.

From the BAM Box website:

A monthly mystery subscription box full of hard to find collectibles, limited edition items, exclusives, and autographs!

Also; guaranteed autograph!

-At least one autographed item in EVERY box! [pullquote]At least one autographed item in EVERY box![/pullquote]
-1 out of 10 boxes include an EXTRA autograph!
-Random boxes get 1-Up cards with upgraded items!

I am not an autograph chaser. If I am at a convention, and there is a long line of people, I will not wait. I will ask for one if it’s because it is easy to do so, usually when I know the individual or am visiting them for some private event. Any Artemis should have some autographed pieces in their collection, though. They look cool and can be great conversation starters among other things. So I like this concept, and it is the first time I have encountered it in a subscription box. Very cool!

Bam Box 2

Let’s get onto the specific box review. Being the geek I am, the theme of 1980’s was one I could get excited about!

The first Item seen when you opened the box was this awesome Goonies Truffle Shuffle pin!

Now I did previously mention I am dedicating this post to the 30th Anniversary Truffle Shuffle contest, Joseph Toshclog.

As it happens, he is also a friend and I will be sending him the pin. If he does not wish to keep it himself, I am sure it would be something someone would appreciate the all more getting from him being he has a significant attachment to the Truffle Shuffle.

If you haven’t seen the Goonies, you really should. You can also click this link if you just want to watch it again!

My personal favorite item from the box is the OUTATIME License place. If you are not up to date on your geek info, this is from the movie Back to the Future and is the plate on the DeLorean.

I would love to put it on my car but when I opened this box my wife was nearby, saw it, and yelled: “I USED TO HAVE THAT PLATE!”. So she does again, at an age when she now has a car to put it on. My wife isn’t into much geek stuff, so I enjoy it when she likes something!

Bam Box 8

Which brings us to this next piece I pulled out of the box. A Ralph Macchio signed Karate Kid movie! As my wife then said, “I think I also had that photo when I was younger!”. No, I didn’t then hand it over to her as we have a mutual collection of pieces like this in the home.

Bam Box 9

As if one autographed item was not already neat enough they also included a Rocky Davies signed print. Now whether you are a fan of the new Ghost Busters movie or not, I love the fact that it brings a focus back to one of the geek classics!

Holy Geek out Ghost Busters! This was cool and something I don’t think my nerd cave has in it, in general. An original pencil sketch, then throw on a topping of one from The Real Ghostbusters. BAM!

Bam Box 16

Retro visor sunglasses, BAM! Another very cool item that while I would not wear all the time, I will toss them on when going out into the evil sun on occasion.

In summary, I was impressed. It’s a fun box with a lot of items that can be put to a lot of fun uses, brought back a lot of nostalgia, and is stuff while I enjoy I typically would not go out shopping for, for myself. All the things a good subscription box should be.

If you agree, go give The Bam! Bo2x a try! http://goo.gl/92d6Vw” rel=”nofollow

Subscription Box Review – Treatsie – Artisan Snacks

If you are a gamer that is anything like I am, one thing you appreciate is good snacks to go with your gaming. Candy, cookie, crackers, fudge, it’s all good! So I think this particular subscription box may appeal to a lot of my readers. Treatsie is a monthly subscription box for between $17.00 and $20.00 a month you will fill your tummy with artisan treats!

Give the gift of Treatsie artisan sweets!

Also, keep in mind that right now this could be the perfect Father’s Day gifts for Dads with a sweet tooth

So let’s take a look first at what came in this months box and then I will tell you what I thought about it.

The box arrived today, and the featured image of this post is what it looked like. I opened it up and was greeted by a very friendly package. Tissue paper, labels, identification card, and colorful shredded paper were all used in combination to help enjoy the unboxing as much as the content.

First, I gave the Espresso cookie to my wife to try. I do not enjoy espresso, coffee, or any other similar flavors. That is a personal taste though and one I loose out on. My wife is a fanatic though and so was more than happy to try these and give me some feedback. She felt they were ok but at the same time, nothing over the top as cookies go. An enjoyable treat to have arrived in the mail for sure, just nothing that made her go to cloud 9.

I tried the Cinnamon Pecan cookies and enjoyed them enough I had to eat both. The cinnamon looks like it is over the top but the may the flavor meshes with that of the pecans and the rest of the cookie make it balance nicely.

The chocolate carmales where given to 3 other people besides myself for feedback. My wife refused to try anything else for a while as she did not want to “ruin the taste of the carmel in her mouth”. Everyone agreed these where some of the best caramel’s they had, including myself. Very good!

I saved the best for last! The Acid Drops… WOW!!! These are an old-fashioned rock candy that is hand made, with sour flavoring. Made in Flordia so I am sure they have exquisite ingredients to work with!

I loved these as not only was the sour very sour, but the flavors in each piece of candy were extremely rich and powerful. I could not stop sucking on them and quickly devoured the whole bag. I would be afraid to have these around in large quantity as I would not stop eating them. One of the best candies I have ever had!

After having a chance to try this box, so far I would be able to very strongly recommend it. Whether for yourself, a father’s day present, or something else, you are going to have some awesome yum yum’s at a fair price for the service.

Give the gift of Treatsie artisan sweets!

Subscription Box Review – The Handy Box – FATHER’S DAY IS COMING!! – *SPOILERS*

I’ve crawled to the depths of the dungeon, killed the dragon, and re-surfaced with my loot! This time, it looks like the great dragon was a subscriber to The Handy Box
.

I think The Handy Box is hands down one of the most useful and coolest subscription boxes out there. Regardless of age, sex, or circumstances, it will most likely offer things you will find useful at some point or another. By the way, I put the razor blade on the box to show the size of it. If you are familiar with subscription boxes, you will realize how much larger this thing is than typical!

Let’s take a look at the subscription box I received this month!

The first thing I pulled out that grabbed my attention was this 9′ x 12′ tarp. I am a bit knowledgeable on tarps, and this is a decent tarp. You have grommets, UV protection, and it is heavy duty. Useful for a thousand things or more I am guessing! I will share a tip for those of you that have to move leaf’s every year!

Take this tarp and drop it in your yard. Using a leaf blower blow all the leaves in the surrounding area onto the tarp. Grab a corner of the tarp and pull it into another leafy area and repeat. Once the tarp is full of leafs, just slide it to the curb, leaf pile your burning, compost pile, or bags depending on what you do with them. I have personally done this, and it saves an incredible amount of time.

GO TARPS! Mine is going in my booth survival gear for The Cavern Store. Was actually something I wanted to add to my equipment and hadn’t purchased yet.

Next item I pulled out with anticipation (as it was wrapped and tied shut), was the Groove Joint Polished Pliers. Or more commonly known in my area, as Channel Locks! High Carbon Steel, Drop Forged, Polished Finish, and soft handle. Not only a set of four but a nice carrying case.

Just about everyone will find a use for these! If you are not familiar with them, they are sort of like pliers, but they open more and have a better grip. I have used them for plumbing, opening jars of paint the lids dried on, food jars, stuck faucets, and an untold number of things in my life.

I only had a couple of pairs floating around here and there. Not a set and spread out in my swelling. They are a costly tool and while I have always wanted a set I have never been able to invest into it. Go The Handy Box
!

I’ll be slotting this set into the tool bag in the house closest toolkit. This is my tool kit I keep inside the house all the time and is my most commonly used tools so that I don’t have to run to the garage for everything.

So the description for the Furniture Sliders indicates they are “great for protecting floors from scratches and damage”. I think they are leaving out a huge perk, and that is that in many situations it makes moving furniture by yourself you otherwise couldn’t, possible or even easy.

I have these on my tv stand for a large tv. It’s all a bit top heavy and wobbly just by nature, and sliding it without it moving smoothly is a bad idea. Without them, I would have to take the tv off to move the stand. I have used them for other things as well and if you have some around you will quickly wonder how you did without them!

This set is going in with my survival kits for my convention booth business with The Cavern Store. Never know when this may come in handy, and I will be happy to have had the foresight to include them. Thanks to The Handy Box
.

Finally but certainly not least, a 6-in-1 screwdriver. Thank you and may I have another, please? You can’t have too many of these things! Well, I suppose you could, but I think id be ok with another dozen of them!

Handy to have at reach anywhere you are. You could put one in your car, bathroom cabinet, bedroom, laundry room, den, closet, and any number of other places. Needing the use of a screwdriver just about anywhere in the home will come up a few times in your life if you live there a decent amount of time. While you wouldn’t go out and buy more than a couple Typically, getting a bonus one like this is a score!

Mine is going in the bedroom, next to the bed, in a thing-a-ma-jig-sorter-organizer, I have some various standard tools in.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity for a huge Fathers Day win! Maybe I am wrong, but as Fathers day presents go, this seems epic! [pullquote]Maybe I am wrong, but as Fathers day gifts go, this seems epic![/pullquote]

Great gift for the father or grandfather wether you get them a month or a year. In many cases just introducing them to it may be a win.

I am not a gambling man by most standards but I am willing to take the occasional small wager. I would put $10 that the next few months will see at least a few outdoor items from The Handy Box
that would encourage some exterior adventuring to happen as well.

I only recommend products I believe in and use myself, and The Handy Box
falls in that catagory. This is a nice subscription box, usefull, and a good value. In my opinon anyway!

Pooch Perks – Subscription Box Review – Dare I Say.. Epic?

Fellow Gamer and Geeks, who own Doggies, do I have a winner for you! One of the best subscription boxes I have ever opened!

My wife was present when I opened this box. I often try to have other people around so I can observe their reactions and get their opinions as well. After examining the contents, we both agreed we are going to switch subscription boxes for our dogs in the future when it comes time to renew!

Before diving into the box contents, let’s take a look at two things I immediately want to know when I consider a dog subscription box.

Question #1
Is what I am getting and giving my dogs safe and healthy? Pooch Perks is all made in the USA toys and treats. Pass!

Question #2
Do you give a portion of your profit towards Charity?

We believe in helping those that cannot help themselves and are committed to rescuing dogs in need. A portion of your monthly Pooch Perks subscription is donated to organizations that rescue abused and neglected pooches.

PASS!

Now, we can look at the contents!

The variety and types are very impressive, and all of these are a winner with my hounds. Regardless how picky they are there is something here to make any pooch happy.

The Jolly Tug is brightly colored, very rugged, and I love the fact one side has a furry coating to make it more appealing than your typical rugged pull toy.

Next up for either that kid of yours that just likes to kill and toss around small fuzzy things or those of you who have one that are instead lovers and like to cuddles up with them, you have “Lamb Chop. The Lamb! The Legend!”.

I love this last one! It is a “Hip Doggie”. To Translate, it is a knitted ball which looks like a beanie. My dog, Frodo, has a serious ball addiction. What more need be said?

One of the thing I noticed about both bags of these treats is they are BIG bags. Not a large bag partially filled either, but fully packed with yummy treats.

Big Daddy Biscuits “Turkey Bacon Bites” and Biscuit Bob’s Gourmet Dog Treats “Cheese”. I have a small dog breed and so was sent the small breed box, and the size of these are PERFECT. Not so small that I have to give them 2-3 and not to large I feel like they are getting too much. Their weight is important!

The dogs loved them, and they smelled so good I was tempted to try them myself!

These last two items make me wonder if they hired someone to hack into my computers and record our home audio!

We have some picky eaters. Even though I buy several flavors within a single brand, they will sometimes strike and not eat if they are tired of one. So Bacon Flavored Dog Food Spray is a win! I have shopped for something like this before but could not find anything that was healthy.

The other is “Snoutstick” which is an organic nose balm for dogs. One of my guys likes to lay on the floor heat vent. He considers it his personal property in fact. This has not been the best on his nose, and when we tried to get help from the vet the response was “don’t let him lay on the vent”. I hadn’t done substantial research yet but hadn’t found a product. This should be perfect, thank you, Pooch Perks!

As the title says, dare I say, Epic? You be the judge, but I think it may apply!

Thats not the only place they excel. The have four different box level options you can choose from. What impresses me the most though is the custom box! You can decide to go all treats or all play with the toys. I like this as an option to choose from, great idea.

Summary;
No matter your dog size or needs you have a broad range of options to choose from. Safe and quality products made in the USA. Items which would be usefull to most anyone and of high quality. You’re helping to support the rescue and care of neglected animals.

Subscription Box Review – Bocandy – Gamers and Geeks Don’t Forget the Snacks!

Not many people don’t like or are unable to enjoy candy. For me, there is a gaming nostalgia connection.

I remember those weekends in which I would load up my personal “bag of holding” with various things for that week’s adventures. In addition to at least one two liters of mountain dew, a few bags of chips, a selection of candy from the corner gas station almost always made it’s way in.

Getting a box of candy delivered to the door as an adult every month to go with your gaming? I think Epic is not being misused in this scenario.

Bocandy does not only just this but they also put a twist on it. These candies come from all over the world ensuring you will get an opportunity to try new things. Whoa, wait, what?!

Bocandy was an idea we had when we tried buying international candy and found out it was not only hard to find, but also really expensive (youch). We started buying it in bulk, shipping it to our home base in Detroit and then to you fine candy loving people all around the US.

As someone who both subscribes to and reviews subscription box services it has been my experience that $20.00 is a very typical box rate. You will often see it going slightly higher than that or shipping being additional. Rarely do you see it lower than that.

They manage to do just that for $15.00 a month, which includes shipping. Go back up and take a look at that photo then look at that price again.

I would guess one of the ways they do this is by focusing on the product. I can respect this. The box size is not any larger than necessary, and nothing unneeded is included in the box. This keeps the shipping weights down I am sure. Rather then lots of documentation you get a scannable website link for that box’s content details.

While this review is not for one of these, they have just recently added a new subscription option. It does cost slightly more but is an all Asian Candy Subscription Box. I have tried a lot of various world candies, and many of my favorites have been from Japan. I think anyone that try’s this new theme will be, pleased!

In a perfect world, I would try all of these candies and then give you a review. Unfortunately, it is just not realistic as for one thing; you wouldn’t really want to make me eat all those in one sitting would you?! I have had some of these in the past, and I will also try one for the review. If you want to know what the rest taste like, go get your own!

The red box that says Hello Kitty may be a bit more familiar to you as Pocky Stick. These are sort of a cracker stick coated/dipped in different cream flavors. I believe these are Strawberry which is one of my favorites! The reason I am so familiar with this product is my daughter is an avid fan and buys them for me on occasion.

The red “Vero Elotes”, I have, to be honest, is not something I am a fan of. That’s me, though, and we all have those things we just do not like. Mustard is another example I would not use. Ick. One of the things I enjoy about boxes like this though is the opportunities to try new stuff like this. I do NOT remember what this tastes like though, only that I really disliked it when I tried one a long while ago.

This brings us to the only other item I have had before, hard cola candies. I LOVE Cola candy, and while I have not had this brand, I have yet to try a cola hard candy that didn’t make me happy. What annoys me in the USA is it is very easy to find reasonably priced Cola gummy candy. Hard candy though was difficult to find and usually costly!

I think a few of these as loosies should be an automatic every month, in every candy subscription box. Let it be so!

Finally, I am giving the Fruit Pastilles a try now. So just wait a moment, please.

I need to try a second, be right with you.

Yep, need a third.

Different. I like them, no doubt about that. They are a sort of fruit chew with a dusting of sugar on them. My initial thought was I was going into something like a Mentos or a gumi, but these are a bit denser in consistany. The flavor is not nearly as strong as I was expecting either, which is also not a negative. The mere aspect of it being more subtle is a positive for these in its way, espically in that it allows the sugar to balance.

In the old and time-honored tradition, I have to give this box two thumbs up. I got what would to me be an excellent value for what they charge. I got a few of my favorites as well as several things I have never had before and get to yet experience.

If you are like me and get late night candy cravings, this may be a good solution to making sure you have some fun yum yums on hand for those life and death emergencies.

Give the stuff you don’t like to your friends and family. Or mail it to me, I’ll maw on it!

Subscription Box Review – The Handy Box

It’s time for another subscription box review!

Specifically this time I am taking a look at The Handy Box

The Handy Box is a box of tools that any handy person can use around the yard and home. Where was this when I was moving out of mom’s house?! I hope this is around when my daughter moves into her own place as this would truly be awesome for someone starting out in their life, although certainly not limited to that purpose!

The Handy Box is the first monthly subscription box designed for handy men and women, DIY’ers (do it yourself-ers), and those who enjoy projects around the home. Each month, The Handy Box delivers useful tools and gadgets to help you complete projects of any size, whether you’re hanging a picture or renovating the bathroom.

I took a few days with this box and showed the photos to some friends of mine. Additionally, a couple of people were present when I opened it.

The overwhelming quote from four different people was something along the lines of “wow, that’s a lot of stuff for one subscription box!”. [pullquote]wow, that’s a lot of stuff for one subscription box![/pullquote]

This, of course, leads to different conversations about the box and its contents. The one that came up the most is that what makes this subscription great, is you can never seem to have too many tools. I used the example of having gone out a few years ago and buying 3x more screwdrivers than I needed and still can’t find the right one when I need it!

That is another aspect of extra tools. The ability to keep them in more than one place. I retain the majority of my things in the garage like most American men. Over time as I have collected extra tools I have also created toolkits that I keep in different places in the house for quick and small home projects. The Handy Box would be an excellent way to build up a tool collection and expand it into other useful places at the same time.

I don’t need to price the devices individually to see they are clearly worth more than the subscription cost of $28.95 (that includes the shipping).

I was personally happy with this box only as it will be useful. While I have more wrenches than anyone can ever use, they are hand me downs all in a big pile, so the wrench set was the coolest surprise for me!

Their website is easy to use, and I like the theme. They also show a lot of images of box examples which I like. I have been to numerous box sites where trying to find sample boxes is nearly impossible.

Summary? This box is a win! If you have a use or interest in these types of products I give it my recommendation.
