Ultima Auction Spotlight – Ultima Ascension – posters autographed by Lord British / Richard Garriott
The sellers of these is an Ultima Dragon and they do a way better job of describing them, then I could!
Three Ultima Ascension prints signed by Richard Garriott. These are the two-page ads that were run during Ultima Ascension’s release window.
Each poster is a full 16.5 x 10.5 inches. There is no magazine split down the middle.
All proceeds will be donated to Toronto SickKids Hospital (https://www.sickkids.ca/). This charity is not listed on eBay.com’s Make A Donation option, so I will be donating directly and providing proof to the winner.
When Ultima Ascension was released, it performed… poorly. I helped test the first patch by running dozens of benchmarks on whatever Matrox card I had at the time.
Post-release, someone at Origin asked for my home address to send a small token of appreciation. A few weeks later these prints showed up, all signed in gold sharpie by Lord British / Richard Garriott.
I would love to add these to my collection, but my finances do not allow it at this time, so.. GO GET EM!!!
It’s about that time again when I toss out some little blurbs and links to things that may be of interest to the Shroud of the Avatar community!
A fun article over here in Which Richard Garriott practices the virtue of Forgiveness.

As well as over here, and if you follow the space stuff at all this is one I highly recommend reading. Great article!

Unfortunately, that’s all I have saved in the article box at this time! All three are great pieces of the man behind the game!
This was an exciting auction to come across my radar, as while I have heard a lot of the Garriott stories I had never heard of this one!
Story or not the photo is fantastic. You can see the pure wonderment on Helen’s face, and Owen in the background has a huge grin!
$10.00 Starting bid with reasonable shipping, this is a cool addition to someone’s collection!
Since I hate doing auction spotlights for just 1 item, I figured I will use some of my own blog space for a couple of auctions I am running for Shroud of the Avatar items, one in particular.
If you didn’t Seed invest but are a collector, then you may have your eyes on many of the Seed invest items. Currently, I have an auction that just started, running just a tad over two weeks, for a Golden Lord British Moondial, taking place on Caveloot.com.
The Moondial to rich for your blood? Do you have some house decorating you need to do or having trouble keeping your vendor stocked and need goods to sell for profit?
I also have an auction running for a “Massive House Decorating kit” that comes with hundreds of items that should allow you to at least get a fairly decent start on the job, including storage! Current bid is $55.00 and that is CHEAP for this kit!
Have item’s you want to auction? We only charge a 10% commission and do all the work, while you tell us how to run it! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Also, have a nice layout with the details on the Shroud of the Avatar forums here: Online Auction Services at Caveloot.com – Perfect for Selling Golden Items! | Shroud of the Avatar Forum
Ok, these came across my screen and I felt they were spotlight worthy!
You have what appears to be a complete Ultima V, up for auction with very reasonable shipping and currently a high bid of $24.00. May go for a decent price, may not, but worth checking out if you want one.
Related and noteworthy is an Ultima V map with decent shipping and currently no bids, starting at $10.00. This could be a great find!
Ultima V Original Cloth Map | eBay
Very incomplete, but has a few items in it and for the potential price is a great parts buy!
This is another one of those summary pieces. Oozes and Blobs that have crossed my path fairly recently that I hadn’t passed along yet and all that.
You may remember a little while back that Protalarium was doing an AMA on Reddit for Shroud of the Avatar. Red Thomas has a nice summary piece set-up over here on MMORPG if you missed it!
Mainly, there’s a lot of questions about what’s going on in development and how it impacts them. So, the Shroud of the Avatar team set up a Reddit AMA to answer their questions.
Not the only recent Article from Red Thomas, you may also want to catch this one about Offline mode for Shroud of the Avatar
Richard Garriott is certainly no stranger to Interviews. I also doubt this is the first time he’s been interviewing while playing a game.
In this episode of Antwand Pearman Vs The Interview, Antwand interviews game developer and explorer Richard Garriott over a very special game of “Save Matt Damon.” They talk about how Richard developed the Ultima series, weird things about space travel and much more! How about those Lunar rifts? When do they go where?
Duke Gréagóir has a fantastic link to a spreadsheet posted over in the forums that help with just those sort of questions!
It is a google doc and starts 6/29 at 4:151:15 pm central time / new britannian time. It is easy to modify as the forumla is adding 8 minutes and 45 seconds for each stop. If you see it is off, Let me know or you should have access to edit it too (if the setting works in google docs).

Gamasutra – Press Releases – Portalarium & Lord British (Famed developer of Ultima & Shroud of the Avatar) Joins Forces with NEVERDIE in Support of Their ICO to Provide Millions of Gamers Universal Ethereum-Based NEVERDIE & Teleport Gaming Tokens
Well, one thing is for sure, as soon as Richard Garriott’s name hits the news, it starts exploding fast.
This one seems like it could be a rather big deal and I have already had two sources cross my desktop.
Here’s a snippet from the post over at Marketride., although it looks like both sites are hosting the same article.
The Teleport token will be used to transport across worlds, seamlessly from one game to another while the NEVERDIE Coin will be used to buy new lives. Both coins will ultimately be used to create a monetized infrastructure that will drive the growth of the virtual goods economy, thus supporting gamified jobs as a way to offset traditional jobs lost to AI and VR advancements. The endeavor between Lord British and NEVERDIE will underscore this effort by championing avatar rights and creating economic opportunity for gamers and longevity for games and virtual worlds.
Here’s links to both websites with the article.

As someone who is both an Ultima collector and that follows the creators, it was eventual that at some point in my life I’d take a look at Helen Garriott’s work. For those not in the know, this would be Richard “Lord British” Garriott’s, mother.
I LOVE her ceramics! So much so that I spent years watching for them until I was able to get a piece for my own collection at a bargain.
I still watch for them as I would love to own many of them. This one is definitely outside of my budget but it absolutely beautiful!
So if I was a map collector, what I would do is try to snag this at a good price, then I would re-eBay the disks by themselves. Full out Ultima or Big Box Collectors? Well, this is just nice all the way around.
An Ultima II map with disks, free shipping, and currently at $6.00 with one bid.
It’s that time again for me to toss out a recap of some bits and bobs that you might want to take a look at, if you missed through the standard channels.
Why don’t you start with a video before digging in?

Portarlarium Is putting in Place a new thingy called “Outskirt Scenes”, read about it here.
If you hadn’t heard yet, Richard Garriott is selling a lot of his property in Austin. The Texas Monthly published an article over here that is very informative. Although I did notice they no mention of Castletown, Richards Renaissance Village on the property.
lthough Garriott’s arrangement with the Baron’s Men isn’t something that a new owner would necessarily be required to maintain (who can require someone with $45,000,000 to spend on a house to do much of anything?), it certainly seems like the sort of option that the troupe would be open to based on the reaction from its performers to the news of the sale.
