First I have to apologize. I have been waiting until I had enough pieces to get a new one of these out and a few days ago I realized I was way past having enough and should be posting the second one by now, with what I have! Ooops!
So let’s do this thing.
I mean, what can I seriously say? What words can top this title? Not really fair you know? It’s like looking at a level 6 Rouge and saying, ok go for it, roll your hiding skill to hide from Dragolich the dragon, in a fully lit room, which is also his hoard, after he was just talking to you, and you haven’t moved, and he knows where you are. Unless your Bilbo and have a Ring of Unlimited Invisibility, with Unlimited Charges, forget it!
It’s always a party when I get a new Patron, but even more so when it is someone as prestigious as the Hearth of Britannia!
The Hearth of Brittania is an active and in my opinion at least, a major community leader in both the Ultima and the Shroud of the Avatar game communities.
Rustic Dragon of the Heath of Britannia himself has been a developer for Shroud of the Avatar, hired by making his mark in the community and impressing the developers with his work. A recipient of a Royal warrant and his famous “cabinet of Virtues” was included in the game, as was The Hearth of Britannia itself!
He also runs regular Google Hangouts as an open forum for discussion for the Ultima Dragons and guests. A place where one of the mottos are “You will always have a home with the Hearth.” As a member of the Ultima Dragons myself, it’s a home that means a lot to me and is very welcoming to new people.
Also on Patreon themselves, engaged in several projects including the development of a cookbook based on the foods from the Ultima Game series.
Even closer and dearer to my own heart, The Hearth of Britannia runs occasional player meets with LARP’ing aspects and is creating an LARP system!!
[pullquote]The Hearth of Britannia is creating an Ultima companion cookbook, LARP system, events, and more![/pullquote]
The Hearth of Britannia tries to give back to the community, and it’s joining as a Patron was a way the Hearth of Britannia is currently helping many of the community members by giving back when they got a bit more than needed for immediate goals.
I highly recommend checking them out if any of their projects sound like they may be of interest. You would be becoming part of a fantastic small community that is big on supporting those among it!
If you like to play with the animals you will want this chart by community member Jaath Windsong.
Creature Name: Pretty much explains itself…
Pre-Tame Hit Points: Again, not too complex
Area: Where I found the beastie, key to the abbreviations is below the chart (rows 58 – 92).
Special Abilities: Abilities the beastie has that it retains after taming.
Half-life Modifier: Whether the number in the table reflects that I was able to half-life the beastie before taming. Goes from 0 at max HP to 10 at half HP on a linear scale (3/4 HP gives a 5 modifier, etc.) I have no idea how to half-life something with 2 HP, so these beastie’s taming score is unmodified.
Creature Level: My best guess at the internal level of the beastie.
Minimum Summoning: The minimum number of points needed in Summoning to summon the beastie from a necklace (self-tamed or purchased). It is (Creature Level – 20), minimum of 1.
Tame Level: The modified taming difficulty (with 0 Tame Creature). It is (19 – Creature Level + Half-life Modifier)
% Chance to tame at taming level: Again, fairly obvious. It is (Tame Level + Tame Creature Level * 0.6) rounded to the nearest integer. To use, just match up your Tame Creature skill on the top (there is a slider that only moves the level columns) with the beastie on the left side, and voilà!
You can head over to the forums for the whole thing! Tell them Stile sent you.
Let’s see if I can wrap this series up this time, eh?
First, grab a bag of popcorn and catch another show from Markee!
Not a tool, but also not a piece I wanted to do its own article on. What would have happened if Shroud of the Avatar had not been crowd-funded? Now that it has, is it possible in the future it may be part of a larger company, other then Portalarium?
Richard Garriott talks a little bit about this with “MC Computer and video Games” . Here’s the link.
I am EXTREMELY excited about this. Not this particular utility in particular as at this time, I do not have an interest in the things it is doing. That is just because right now (and could change later), I am not too worried about the things it offers. Regardless it is going to appeal to a lot in a major way!! My personal excitement is that where there is one, more will follow.
I look forward to seeing what additional utilities similar to this, but offering different things and features, the Shroud of the Community will be creating!
Here is a snippet from the post on the forums:
Hello and welcome to the first public release of Umuri’s SOTA HUD.
A clean viewable interface for the /stats command, no more looking at a wall of text that’s hard to read!
Combat statistics, see how much you hurt something for, what the average damage is, and how high your crits are!
Crafting statistics, see your salvage rates!
Skillgains and logon/logoff timestamps. Did that person really log off an hour ago or was it just 10 minutes ago when you weren’t looking?
Chat tab that lasts more than 5 minutes of history!
Ability to view previous days logs, to pull historical stats
Opacity and on-top mode! Now you can have that second chat window you always dreamed about
Exporting of parsed stats/chatlogs to CSV format
Much much more!
There is a lot more information on this, though, so get over and check it out! Tell em I sent you!
