Even Gamers Need To Wear Socks! – Subscription Box Review – Socks and I – *Spoliers*

So next time your gaming, you want to make sure you not only have awesome socks keeping your feet warm but it’s also important that you don’t have to loose valuable gaming time going to the store for them, right?

That’s why I decided to check out a sock subscription box company and pass along a review o them for you!

Welcome to The Subscription Box review for “Socks and I,” a monthly service!

We’re a fun, passionate and sock crazy company founded on the principle that everything we do, must be done with YOU in mind.

Our mission is not only to send you AMAZING socks, but to make sure your EXPERIENCE with Socks and I, is one of a kind.

We can’t wait to ship you your package every month!

Socks and I give you the option to receive either 1 pair, two pair, or 4 pairs per month. You, of course, get to choose his or hers and the box I am reviewing for you is a mix.

There is something very cool about getting socks in the mail each month! Let’s take a look at these.

Two pairs of what I would term an “athletic” sock came in the box. Both have some vibrant colors, are well knit, stretchy, calf high, and will make any Orc want to get the drop down on you for this loot.

I personally really dig these Red, white, and black pattern which give me a Harley Quinn vibe!

Regardless of your taste preferences for coloring and styles, both of these seem quite warm and comfortable. Realizing my feet were a bit cold, I armored up against the elements with a pair and am quite cozy. The elastic around my calfs also seems to be more supportive without being restrictive than I am used to.

Definitely quality socks!

The first thing that pops into my mind when I look at this other pair? WOW, the stitching on these and detail is amazing!

The ankle high has a beautiful soft color tone with a sort of Aztec type pattern to it. Gave me some cool nostalgic thoughts of the 1982 video game by the same name! My wife not being a gamer will not appreciate that, but she will like the socks.

The other pair, just as beautiful…

HOLY SHIT THOSE ARE LONG! Was my immediate thought on unfolding them!

I can’t wait to see the look on my wife’s face when I hand her these. We both love to try new things in our wardrobe, but both have to watch our expenses, and this is going to be something she will enjoy wearing a treat.

The time of year is perfect with the negative temperatures we have sometimes been getting in our area. Not only being long but very thick with tight stitching to keep out air.

Not only because of their cool length but also their color, they remind me of my Doctor Who scarf (which yes, I DO WEAR in the winter!).

I am extremely pleased with this subscription box, hence why it’s being shared with you. The items are varied, high quality, and a decent value. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with this subscription box service!

Book Spotlight from Stile Teckel

I had recently done a review on the book “Dungeon Born” by “Dakota Krout”, as a book, I would recommend, found a bit unusual from the norm, and just really enjoyed overall. Gave me some great ideas for an RPG system or how I would alter one of my own to run in the future as well.

Having enjoyed it, I decided to try out a similar novel called “The Slime Dungeon” by “Jeffrey “Falcon” Logue.” This one is a two part series (at the moment), and I did read both of them.

I have to report back that I both enjoyed and was disappointed in this series.

Taken objectively it was an enjoyable read. Being that the “slime” was one of my favorite “mobs” in the Ultima Games and Shroud of the Avatar, to read a book in which the dungeon setup revolves around slimes was very enjoyable for me. In fact, some guild members and I were just killing slimes in Serpent’s Mine in SotA a few nights ago!

On the other hand, these books were VERY familiar. To the extent that if someone told me it was the same writer under a pen name, or another writer trying to copy one and change it just enough to get away with it, I would not be surprised at all. That is where the disappointment came from. In some ways it was unique, but in many ways, it seemed very much like a remake… That was not done quite as well.

While I did not enjoy it as much as Dungeon Born, to give it it’s fair due, taken on its own I am glad I read it. I would have preferred to have read these two first, then Dungeon born but you cannot go wrong with any of them!

I hereby dedicate this article to all the slimes I have killed in Ultima over my life!

Book Reccomendation by Stile Teckel – Dungeon Born

Many of you have seen me mention I have been reading a lot of books in the LITRPG genre over the last few years (do not worry, though, I do not ignore other genre’s!).

One that has passed across my screen as I have ben looking for something to read, many times is “Dungeon Born” by Dakota Krout.

I passed it up many times, not because I did not feel it would be good but after reading the description, it was not a taste I was in the mood for.

Finally felt like this would “hit the spot” recently, grabbed it, read it, and am now talking about it because it was fantastic!

It has the feel of a Pen and Paper RPG but unlike some LITRPG, does not present the story as a game, or use game mechanics to describe things.

The concept is that Dungeons are born as a gem and that the dungeons are an extension of themselves. Or to give it a vibe I liked, you could picture you being the GM in a game, playing the dungeon.

What was fun about this story is it did give a lot of plausible thoughts to the things your party always cry about. You know things like, why is the gold mine always by the entrance? Why is the entrance not hidden? Why does it continually respawn!!!!

All in all, it was an enjoyable read combined with the willingness to let my disbelief go for a bit.

What I would very much like to see, if it’s not already done (I haven’t checked yet so there may be!), is a RPG pen and paper version of this. I think it could make for some great gameplay and ma fun mechanics system for the GM!

Quick Movie Review – Deathgasm

Amazon recently added Deathgasm to their rental library, or you get it for free if you have their Shudder channel (or a free trial!).

I was excited to get a chance to watch this as a while back I had gotten a subscription box from “Box of Dread” with some props from the movie. Whenever I get some swag for a game, movie, book, etc.. If I have not experienced it, I like to do so.

High School is Hell! Metal-thrashing Brodie is an outcast in a sea of jocks and cheerleaders until he meets a kindred spirit in fellow metalhead Zakk. After starting their own band, Brodie and Zakk s resentment of the suburban wasteland leads them to a mysterious piece of sheet music said to grant Ultimate Power to whoever plays it. But the music also summons an ancient evil entity known as Aeloth The Blind One, who threatens to tear apart existence itself. Their classmates and family become inhabited by demonic forces, tearing out their own eyes and turning into psychotic murderers… and this is only the beginning! It s up to Brodie, Zakk and their group of friends to stop a force of pure evil from devouring all of mankind.

If you do not like blood and gore, stay away from this one! If you are ok with that, enjoy Heavy Metal, over the top Horror comedy then you may like this. I found it fun when watched as a non-serious movie. It reminded me a lot of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil.

Subscription Box Review – Buzz Pack – *Spoilers, **Adult / 18+ Only

Buzz-Pack is a 420 style subscription box for the use of Tobacco products. I had one of their boxes arrive to me a couple of days ago, and so have the pleasure of now presenting their service to you, my readers!

Like you would expect from any adult product, this did, of course, arrive to me discreetly packaged. Now always easy for me to show in photographs as I don’t want to put my home address out there to the public.

This isn’t the first time I have reviewed a subscription box of this type, although it has been a while. I was first stunned by the sheer amount of items in it. Although many of the items were small I felt it far exceeded most boxes I see regarding loosies.

Big perks for that, as sometimes you get a cool thing that has most of the cost wrapped up into it, and loosies give you an opportunity to still provide quantity in addition to that quality.

Buzz-Pack has more than one subscription option, and the box I am reviewing is the Monthly Buzz Pack, which is $34.95 with shipping included. SPECIAL OFFER FOR CAVERNS READERS!!! Get 10% off your subscription by using the code “CAVERNS” on your subscription. Also, let’s them know who sent you and builds up my guild relations, so helps me out as well. That same code will also work for their “Monthly Extra Buzz” or the: Monthly Rolling Buzz Pack”.

A couple of snippets from their website.

Your box will contain an assortment of the following items:
Smoking Device- Glass pipe, wood pipe, or a water pipe.
Smoking accessories- Papers, tips, cones, grinders, or storage devices.
Flame accessories- Lighters, & hemp wicks.
Cool stickers- Stickers from our suppliers, to put on your gear.
Munchies- A salty snack as well as a sweet snack will help your cravings.

Buzz-Pack is an exclusive monthly membership box. similar to a magazine subscription. Each month we send you a themed gift box full of awesome 420 Lifestyle and Smoking Products!

I have found them much easier to work with than some of the other companies I have in the past. If that means anything to you when considering if they are someone you want to purchase from.

Let’s delve into the individual items. I am saving the best piece for last on this post!

The photos speak for themselves on these. Snacks and drinks are always good and the following evening after this box arrived, I came I had a supper which consisted of a Cliff Bar (not from this box), the Popcorn, the Tang, and the Milky ways from this box. That seems like a win to me!

First, you have a couple of cigar wraps for making cigars. I was more excited about getting some hemp wick, though. The cigar wraps I will save for the next time special guest visits, and I want to have a special smoke on a special occasion with them!

If you are not familiar with hemp wick, it is cord made out of pure hemp. You can wrap it around something to hold it, and it burns slowly.

It’s popular in smoking products as it is an all natural way to light your cigar or what have you, without inhaling butane or lighter fluid. It’s common to have a lighter that doubles as a holder for this wick, and you light the wick, let it burn for a moment to burn off the butane or fluid, and then use the wick at your leisure. Unspooling more as you need it.

Not limited to the smoking genre of products, though, you can use this for all sorts of things. My favorite use outside of smoking? Fireworks.

IMG_3675

Two tubes which can be used to carry any number of things (these went to my wife to be used for pills), but are primarily meant to be used to carry your smaller sized paper wrapped smokes. The Blue one has a wrap with a tip on it, all ready to be used for rolling smoke! The Orange one I thought was empty, and it is a good thing I opened it just because I was checking out the quality of everything (superb).

Then I saw a beautiful small clear glass pipe inside, a bit smaller than a cigarette. An exquisite piece and an excellent way to add a little extra surprise to the box!

This grinder is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. It is Aerospaced, and while I had these items sitting out waiting for me to do this write-up, I have had numerous people who have walked past it, picked it up, and commented on it in surprise. It is that it rotates, opens, and unscrews with not only incredible precision, but it feels like you are buttering sliced bread regarding ease and smoothness.

Once you pick it up, you have a tendency to want just to play with it like a toy. It takes your senses by surprise because it is uncommonly well-crafted.

Again while this product is primarily used in the smoking industry, it is employed in many others, and my wife already has eyes on this one for herbs and spices. At this point with everything I have reviewed, I feel you would have gotten your value of the cost of the box, but we are not done!

IMG_3678

Lots of loosies in this box! Rolling papers, lighter, wipes, stickers, tips, and more! If this is typical of this subscription service it ensures that not only are you getting new things but if you are a regular smoker it is a fun way to replenish your essential supplies.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST! A fantastic piece of artwork in this glass pipe. I happen to be a personal fan of glass blowing and know a tiny bit about it. The multiple colors, the way they are layered, and the consistent change of shape and patterns all mean that making this pipe is a lot harder than many others. That in turns relate to more cost.

Glass blowing is an incredible amount of work, and if you have never watched anything on it, I highly recommend it. It will give you a larger appreciation for the artform! It can also be dangerous.

I found that overall the value of this box vs. the cost seemed to be way more for the buyer than you would typically see. Not only superb in quality but also in quantity, and range of products. I will give it a 10 out of 10 regarding recommendation if it’s a product you are looking to get in a subscription format.

Remember to use the code “CAVERNS”!

The first thing I did when I saw the lubricant was a check to see if it is water based. It is! A water-based lubricant can be an important factor to many people due to allergy or skin sensitivity concerns. So this is not only a fun item in that is heats up, but it is also safer for many to use.

Still, though let’s back up from the lubricant a little bit and set the mood first. Start out with a few candles to set the environment for your date. Let them know the mood you’re going for right away!

Bribe them, err, I mean show them how much you care about them by offering them some tantalizing treats. If they still hedge a bit get them to play a game of dice with you1

Now that they are more in the mood and a little more pliable you can step up from the dice games and add a little innocent fun with some fur covered handcuffs and a blind. Then kick it up another notch with a personal massager which doubles as a nice gift for someone to keep for their personal use as well.

Finally as things really heat up, whatever your personal preferences are you should always practice them safely! This subscription box had the essentials to make sure that will happen when combined with a little responsibility.

I feel good about recommending this subscription service to my readers. You get a combination of both some essentials that you can always use as well as a touch of the unknown which is so important to the surprise factor to a subscription. I hope this was helpful and that if you try this out, tell them Stile sent you!

Subscription Box Review – Japan Fun Box – YUM!

To the best of my knowledge, the Japan Fun Box is the first subscription box I have ever received that was shipped to me via international shipping. That is one of the things I was most intrigued about regarding this box, was getting quality items shipped directly from the source as opposed to re-distribution through an American service.

IMG_3428

From the Japan Fun Box website:

The Japanese candy that you’ve seen on the web can arrive straight to your doorsteps. You’ve gotta try them for yourself to see how fun, crazy, and delicious they are! Won’t you try some right now?

In addition to getting a selection of yum yum’s delivered to your door each month straight from Japan, you have the option to choose how much you want! They offer a Mini box which is what this particular review is covering for $14.99 a month. Additionally, you can choose the larger size original or the really big *licks lips* family size!

IMG_3430

The packaging was very nice, and I was happy to have the contents card that explained what each item was in English. I would have been unable to identify any of these articles other than taste and some of them have an aspect to them that I would have been missing out something on. This helped make the box better.

I enjoyed this box, and it is one I can recommend. Fair pricing for the amount of fun and quality product you are getting.

I have had the Tomato Pretzels before, although I cannot tell you what subscription service I got them from. They were a happy surprise to see again as I enjoyed them the previous time.

The whistle grape candy surprised me as I had not expected them to be hollow and as they collapse when you are sucking on them they have a nice flavor burst with an interesting texture. The grape flavor is unique and reminds me of grape Bubble Yum, fantastic! Toss in the free toy that I can add to my game room as a conversatoin piece? Sweet!

Coolest award in this box would have to go to the Shuwabo! It is amazing to me how the orange and lemon flavors somehow taste like cola. Add on top of that Cola candy has become one of my absolute favorites and this was just an excellent treat.

I hope you put this box on your consideration list and let them know The Caverns sent you!

Subscription Box Review – the BAM! Box, 1980’s Theme! – Warning, Spoilers – Dedication to Joseph Toschlog

I dedicate this review to Joseph Toschlog AKA Rustic Dragon of the Hearth of Britannia! Joseph Toschlog was the winner of the Goonies 30th Anniversary Truffle Shuffle contest. Additional comments on this dedication will be mentioned elsewhere in this piece.

First, let me just say there is something cool when you are about to open a box that says “BAM!” on it. Great name choice!

What I liked most about BAM box is it felt like I came out of a collectibles store having just picked up a bunch of good buys. You know that toy store down the road or the collectible store stuck in the corner of the strip mall. The place each geek always loves to find in hopes of coming out with new treasures. It was exactly like one of those shopping trips.

From the BAM Box website:

A monthly mystery subscription box full of hard to find collectibles, limited edition items, exclusives, and autographs!

Also; guaranteed autograph!

-At least one autographed item in EVERY box! [pullquote]At least one autographed item in EVERY box![/pullquote]
-1 out of 10 boxes include an EXTRA autograph!
-Random boxes get 1-Up cards with upgraded items!

I am not an autograph chaser. If I am at a convention, and there is a long line of people, I will not wait. I will ask for one if it’s because it is easy to do so, usually when I know the individual or am visiting them for some private event. Any Artemis should have some autographed pieces in their collection, though. They look cool and can be great conversation starters among other things. So I like this concept, and it is the first time I have encountered it in a subscription box. Very cool!

Bam Box 2

Let’s get onto the specific box review. Being the geek I am, the theme of 1980’s was one I could get excited about!

The first Item seen when you opened the box was this awesome Goonies Truffle Shuffle pin!

Now I did previously mention I am dedicating this post to the 30th Anniversary Truffle Shuffle contest, Joseph Toshclog.

As it happens, he is also a friend and I will be sending him the pin. If he does not wish to keep it himself, I am sure it would be something someone would appreciate the all more getting from him being he has a significant attachment to the Truffle Shuffle.

If you haven’t seen the Goonies, you really should. You can also click this link if you just want to watch it again!

My personal favorite item from the box is the OUTATIME License place. If you are not up to date on your geek info, this is from the movie Back to the Future and is the plate on the DeLorean.

I would love to put it on my car but when I opened this box my wife was nearby, saw it, and yelled: “I USED TO HAVE THAT PLATE!”. So she does again, at an age when she now has a car to put it on. My wife isn’t into much geek stuff, so I enjoy it when she likes something!

Bam Box 8

Which brings us to this next piece I pulled out of the box. A Ralph Macchio signed Karate Kid movie! As my wife then said, “I think I also had that photo when I was younger!”. No, I didn’t then hand it over to her as we have a mutual collection of pieces like this in the home.

Bam Box 9

As if one autographed item was not already neat enough they also included a Rocky Davies signed print. Now whether you are a fan of the new Ghost Busters movie or not, I love the fact that it brings a focus back to one of the geek classics!

Holy Geek out Ghost Busters! This was cool and something I don’t think my nerd cave has in it, in general. An original pencil sketch, then throw on a topping of one from The Real Ghostbusters. BAM!

Bam Box 16

Retro visor sunglasses, BAM! Another very cool item that while I would not wear all the time, I will toss them on when going out into the evil sun on occasion.

In summary, I was impressed. It’s a fun box with a lot of items that can be put to a lot of fun uses, brought back a lot of nostalgia, and is stuff while I enjoy I typically would not go out shopping for, for myself. All the things a good subscription box should be.

If you agree, go give The Bam! Bo2x a try! http://goo.gl/92d6Vw” rel=”nofollow
